This brief presentation will provide an overview aimed at the clinical research professional:
- Pathophysiology of progressive kidney and liver disease and the implications for clinical study design and conduct
- Concomitant medical conditions, concomitant medications, and complications of renal and hepatic disease
- Special considerations for inclusion and exclusion criteria in renal and hepatic special populations PK studies
- Potential barriers and solutions to the successful recruitment and enrollment of renal and hepatic impairment
Richard A Preston MD MSPH MBA is Professor of Medicine, Chief of the Division of Clinical Pharmacology and Medical Director/PI of the Clinical Pharmacology Research Unit at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Nephrology, and Clinical Pharmacology. He has more than 30 years of clinical research experience and 110 original scientific publications including a textbook on renal electrolyte and acid base physiology.
